John Stanton (journalist)

John Stanton is a journalist writing on national security topics in the Washington, DC area. He has written articles for online publications such as Pravda.ru,[1][2] Sri Lanka Guardian,[3] CounterPunch,[4][5][6] Cryptome,[7] The Intelligence Daily (IntelDaily),[8] Journal of Technology Transfer,[9] Seoul Times, and TRDEFENCE (Turkish Military & Geopolitics Portal).[10] He has also written for National Defense Magazine,[11] Defense Daily, American Behavioral Scientist[12] and Convergence Magazine.

In the media Stanton appeared on CBS, ABC and CNN immediately after 9/11 commenting on homeland security and national defense. He is a former radio talk show host, magazine editor, and deputy program manager.

Cyberwarfare and technology commentary

Stanton wrote on cyberwarfare/information warfare in the 1994–2000 timeframe when the Bill Clinton Administration was pushing cyber defense initiatives. Other articles discussed technical matters such as electromagnetic pulse affects, urban warfare, and orphan nukes and intelligence after 9/11. He presented papers on Asynchronous Transfer Mode, Strategic Cultural Analysis and Evolutionary Cognitive Neuroscience.[13]

Human Terrain Systems

Stanton has authored roughly 60 articles over a two year period on the US Army's (United States Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC)) Human Terrain System (HTS).[14] He also appeared on Russia Today TV to comment on HTS.[15]

National security commentary

The Sri Lanka Guardian and Pravda first carried Stanton's 2010 piece titled "USA Undermines Democracy in Turkey: It's Turkey Stupid, Not Israel". That piece discusses the internal dynamics of Turkey's efforts to maintain democratic reforms, a free press and an open culture.[16][17]

Stanton attended the Foreign Policy Research Institute seminar on Civil-military relations at the First Division Catigny Museum in Illinois in May 2011 and the George C. Marshall Institute in the Summer of 2011.
